I have been observing the folks here playing Mexican train, a domino game. Finally I gave it a try this evening and it is a good social game and holds your interest and with this group of RV’rs it is popular. So tonight was my first game and I think I can get the hang of it at least I can participate even if I am not good at it.
I have tried other games like various card games over the years and I don’t play well and leave frustrated. I have been looking for a game to play that I would be good enough at to feel like I’m competent and this might be it. One game does not make a convert.
We have a group of folks leaving here wednesday morning for Death Valley there will be about ten rigs traveling together to tour the valley. I won’t be going I have a Dr’s appointment in Tucson and I have some repairs to get done there so I am not at liberty to join the group. After the repairs I will be headed to the Slabs near Niland CA. There is a man there who makes a living selling and installing solar rv equipment and I have already exchanged messages with him about installing solar on my rig. It would be nice to be independent of electrical outlets and able to visit areas without having to concern myself with how I was going to find electricity to run my lights, fridge, computer and other electrical appliances.
I plan to leave here wednesday and head west at least that is the plan today 🙂
The last event of the rally was going out to a movie set and getting a talk from the man there who says he was a stand in for John Wane in the movies. I didn’t believe him as he is too young for one thing. But a fun time was had by most of the people who went and that was the main thing. That evening there was music for the dance, a rousing game of cards and another game of Mexican train going on in the bunk house so there was plenty of activity in the park. This morning some of the folks went to a farm and ranch museum and some of the attendees departed the area for who knows where. There were lots of hugs to go around and well wishes too.
There may be a rally here in the spring and if there is there will be lots of folks coming in from all over North America to join in the fun.
Folks have been coming in for the rally and the social hour meetings are getting a crowd. Lots of folks know each other here so there are lots of hugs when someone arrives a very friendly group so far.
Went to brunch today (sunday) at an Italian restaurant, well it was listed as a brunch but really it was a buffet as there were no breakfast items. As a vegetarian I had slim pickings just salad fruit and one veg that didn’t have animal stuff on it or in it. I made do and carried on. The company was good and folks had a good time catching up on each others adventures since the last time they saw each other.
After the buffet I stopped by Wally World and picked up a few things seems like I always need something there. Then returned to the Low-Hi Ranch and sat around and gabbed with the gals for the afternoon.
Monday of course was Pot-Luck day so the evening entertainment was a pot luck dinner. I was going to skip it as I have become a Herbovor (vegetarian/vegan), but at the last minute there was an anouncement that there was going to be a be a vegetarian dish there so I went and had vegetarian chili. It tasted good but gave me so much gas I couldn’t be around people.
Tuesday we went to the Pink Store which is in Palomas MX and is both a store and a restaurant with live music for lunch. I bought a few things and had a bean burrito with rice. It was okay, nothing to shout about.
Wednesday; there were several events going on one was a trip to burro rescue ranch and the folks that went there had a lot of fun feeding the burros and watching them play. Another group went to Silver City NM for shopping and lunch, that was what I did. I had a fun trip to Silver City and had a vegetarian lunch at The Vegetarian Deli. I had a wonderful squash soup with sweet potato and sandwich with mock tuna fish that was very good. We shopped at some of the thrift stores and stopped by Walgreens and Walmart the came back to the ranch in Deming for another dinner. This time the vegetarians had a veggie lover’s pizza along with the usual vegetables and desserts at the dinner.
Thursday; I had KP duty at the the dinning hall and there was breakfast burritos ham and bean, bacon and been and bean and cheese for the vegetarians along with juices and hot drinks. Tonight is a dance and this afternoon line dance instruction to get us ready for the dance tonight. After KP duty this morning I drove my rig over to the dump station and dumped my tanks while the weather was good as it is supposed to get colder tonight! Maybe I should get out the electric blanket?
I bought and installed a new switch for the water heater and things didn’t go well. After a minute I could smell smoke and then could see smoke so I turned the circuit breaker for the water heater off and dismantled the new switch making sure (double sure) that the wires could not come in contact. The smoke went away and my heart stopped beating so fast. There is a short in the wires of the water heater and I am going to pay a Tech to fix it that should know what they are doing. I don’t want to guess and end up burning down my rig with me in it or leaving me homeless.
Just another adventure on the road.
A strange odor woke me up in the night about 3am. It smelled like something chemical maybe wire insulation so the first thing I checked was the fridge no odor there I checked every light socket and outlet opened every cabinet and sniffed, nothing. I went outside to see if the odor was coming in from someone burning something and the wind had carried the odor to my rig, nothing. I checked the stove and the furnace found that the lever for the catalytic heater wasn’t closed all the way, but the smell wasn’t of LP. I opened a vent wide and on a hunch I flipped the circuit breaker for the elect part of the water heater. I even took the drawer out of the vanity and smelled in there as the water heater is under that drawer. I felt all the switches nothing. So I had a restless night.
This am the odor was still in the potty area so it must be the electrical wiring in there somewhere. I took the electrical switch out and looked for burn marks an smelled it and no burn marks or odor. I think I might replace the switch anyway as I don’t think it was working right while I was in Tucson, because I had to use LP to heat the water. This stuff could drive you to distraction. An RV fire is a serious event that one wants to avoid as most fires total the rig. The good thing was there was the fire alarm didn’t go off so there was no smoke or not enough to set off the alarm. I usually set it off when cooking so it does work.
The buyer of our property in Texas showed up yesterday and signed the papers for the closing on the property. So, I am hoping everyone did their job and all of this is legal and nothing comes back to bite me on the ass at some later date. So it is Good-bye Texas! On to a brighter future somewhere on the road following a wandering star 🙂
I went out to dinner last night with friends and for me it was a quiet celebration to be free from the stix and bricks in Texas and most of all to have a few laughs and tell a few tales of the road with companions who can respond with the same. So last night life was good and today looks good too 🙂
I am in Deming NM for a Rally of RV’s that belong to the LOW”s (Loners On Wheels club) lots of friendly folks here and the park is full plus over flow…
